Daniel Masters is an applied economist with almost two decades of experience in the public and private sectors. Daniel started his career as a graduate economist in the Northern Territory Treasury in 2003. Daniel was attracted to the Northern Territory given its unique position within the Commonwealth and his keen interest in federal financial relations. Fishing in the NT was also a moderate factor in his decision. Whist in the NT, Daniel was given the opportunity to work in transport policy and planning where he undertook numerous economic assessments and cost benefit analyses of transport infrastructure projects.
After telling too many stories of ‘the one that got away’, Daniel returned to New South Wales where he held various positions focussing on applied economics and cost benefit analysis. These positions include, but are not limited to, Infrastructure Economist. State Water, Manager Asset Management and Strategy, State Water and Senior Manager Investment Appraisal, NSW Department of Industry. Daniel also established, and was the founding Director of the Centre for Economic and Regional Development (CERD) within the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet.
After completing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in economics and graduate studies in mathematics, Daniel realise a life-long goal and recently commenced a PhD at the Business Intelligence and Data Analytics (BIDA) Research Centre, University of Technology. His primary supervisor, and tormentor, is Professor John Rose.
Whilst trying to survive his candidature, Daniel holds a part-time position of Principle Economist within the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet where he manages a small team focusing on econometric and statistical modelling.
