About the Speaker David Kalisch is the 15th Australian Statistician, and is responsible for oversight of the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Mr Kalisch is an economist with over 30 years experience in public policy, with an interest in labour markets, macro and micro economics and social policy, as well as organisational performance. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Public Policy Fellow at the Australian National University. Mr Kalisch was previously the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Institute for Health and Welfare, a Commissioner at the Productivity Commission, Deputy Secretary in the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing, and has held senior executive roles in the Commonwealth Departments of Family and Community Services, Social Security and Prime Minister and Cabinet. He has also had two appointments at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in Paris.
