Not all skills shortages are created equal
This presentation explores the different types of skills shortages in Australia, using insight from Jobs and Skills Australia’s Occupation and Skills List (OSL), Skills Typology, and workforce shortage projections. It highlights the diverse drivers behind shortages and their implications for policy.
This event is a hybrid event and can be attended in-person or virtually.
About the Speaker
David Turvey is responsible for overseeing the operations of Jobs and Skills Australia, including providing strategic advice on the work program, technical advice on analytical products, building relationships with partners and stakeholders and managing operational aspects such as budgeting, recruitment, technology and culture and people management.
Prior to his current role, David was First Assistant Secretary, National Skills Commission. David has held executive roles at the Department of Education Skills and Employment, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, Australian Treasury, and the Department of Finance and Administration. David also worked as an economist at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.
David has worked in a range of policy areas including labour market policy, vocational education and training policy, industry policy, fiscal policy and public debt management. His governance experience covers several Australian Government entity audit committee roles and as Treasurer of a not-for-profit community organisation in the ACT.
David holds a Master of Economics from the Australian National University and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
