Is it time to bring back a price on Carbon?

NSW Treasury and the Economic Society of Australia invites you to a Distinguished Speaker event with Rod Sims AO.

We are pleased to invite you to attend our next Distinguished Speaker event, featuring one of Australia's leading public policy expert, Rod Sims AO. Join us for a thought-provoking discussion on carbon pricing—why it remains the most economically efficient tool for reducing emissions, and how it could be reintroduced into the policy landscape in Australia.

Economists know that having a carbon price is the most efficient way to address climate change, in Australia and internationally. The logic is overwhelming. Indeed, it is strange to hear discussion of policies to reduce emissions without mention of a price on carbon.

The discussion will cover the 2012–14 carbon price Australia had that put us at the forefront of world climate policies, and the difficulties we have had of getting a carbon price back on the policy agenda. It will then address the broader advantages of putting a price on carbon, such as for productivity and budget repair. Finally the focus will be on how we can get a price on carbon in Australia in the near future.

This event is a hybrid event and can be attended in-person or virtually.
