The Economics of Women's Health: Lunchtime Seminar - ONLINE ONLY

Join us for our second year of our annual Women's health event! This year will have an emphasis on menopause and the implications menopause has on the workplace, wellbeing and the economy!

If you’re interested in learning more about why we need to think about women's health and the important issues in the Australian context today, then this is the event for you!

This event will be a virtual seminar with two key speakers, consisting of experience in academia.

The event will include short presentations of the panels’ work and learnings on women’s health, as well as a component designed to start a discussion on ‘where to next?’.

 

Our Panel

Dr Rebecca Mitchell is Professor and Director of the Macquarie University Health at Work Research Centre. She holds a PhD from the University of Sydney and is an academic member of the Australian Psychological Society. Her research interests lie in the area of organizational psychology, including wellbeing at work. She currently consults to industry on menopause at work as well as innovative work design and healthy workplaces. Her research in this area is published in leading international journals, has attracted national media attention and influenced government policy direction. 

Dr Lydia Brown is a Clinical Psychologist and Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences, University of Melbourne. Her research expertise centres on understanding and enhancing well-being during the menopause transition and beyond, with a particular emphasis on self-compassion as a protective factor. In 2024, Dr Brown served as lead author on a Lancet Series paper on menopause and mental health. She currently sits on the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) Menopause Guideline Development Committee, contributing her psychological expertise to the development of clinical practice guidelines.

Moderator

Dr Le (Lyla) Zhang is an Associate Professor of Economics at Macquarie Business School, Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. She specialises in experimental and behavioural economics, with a focus on human decision-making and life outcomes.  Her research has been published in leading journals. She is currently Chair of the Women in Economics Network (NSW), Co-Director of the Experimental Economics Laboratory at Macquarie Business School, and a member of the Macquarie University Health at Work Research Centre.
