About the Speakers

Gladys Berejiklian was the first woman elected Premier of New South Wales, serving from 2017 to 2021 and becoming the state’s longest-serving Liberal Premier. She represented the electorate of Willoughby in the NSW Parliament for 18 years (2003–2021). She is now Managing Director, Enterprise, Business and Institutional at Optus.

Gladys holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Diploma in International Studies from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Commerce from UNSW, and was the first in her family to attend university.

Guy Debelle joined the Reserve Bank of Australia in 1994 and served as Deputy Governor from 2016 to 2022, playing a key role in Australia’s response to the Global Financial Crisis and representing the Bank internationally. He has also worked at the IMF, BIS and Australian Treasury, and was a Visiting Professor at MIT.

He holds an Honours degree in Economics from the University of Adelaide and a PhD from MIT.

Diana Mousina is the Deputy Chief Economist at AMP with over 15 years of experience across financial markets, funds management, and the superannuation industry.

Her work focuses on interpreting economic data, policy developments, and market movements, and translating them into clear, accessible insights. She is passionate about cutting through jargon and explaining economic concepts in ways that are practical, engaging, and relevant beyond the finance industry.

She believes economics should empower people, not confuse them. By making economic ideas easier to understand, she aims to help individuals feel more confident navigating the economy, managing their wealth, and making informed financial decisions.

Richard Holden is Scientia Professor of Economics at UNSW Business School and President Emeritus of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. He previously held faculty positions at the University of Chicago and MIT and earned his AM and PhD in Economics from Harvard University.

His research in contract theory and political economy has been published in leading journals including the Quarterly Journal of Economics and American Economic Review. He is Editor of the Journal of Law and Economics and a regular columnist for the Australian Financial Review.
