DESCRIPTION:In our first lunchtime seminar for the year Professor Garry Barrett will talk about the work of Angus Deaton.
Angus Deaton was awarded the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2015 for &ldquo\;his analysis of consumption\, poverty and welfare.&rdquo\; Deaton&rsquo\;s research links consumption behaviour at the micro level to aggregate outcomes\, which has had a major impact on a variety of fields including microeconomics\, macroeconomics and development. This seminar will provide a selective overview of the key contributions of Deaton to economics.
Garry Barrett is Professor of Economics at the University of Sydney\, and the current editor of&nbsp\;The Economic Record. Garry's main areas of research are labour economics\, public economics and microeconometrics. Garry's research has focused on measuring economic inequality and welfare\, analysing consumer behaviour\, examining participation in income support programs and\, more recently\, analysing the determinants of retirement behaviour and household saving. His work has been published in journals such as&nbsp\;Econometrica\,&nbsp\;Journal of Public Economics\,&nbsp\;Review of Economics and Statistics\,&nbsp\;Journal of Econometrics\,&nbsp\;Journal of Business and Economic Statistics&nbsp\;and&nbsp\;The Review of Income and Wealth.
