This seminar looks at an application of economics to engineering solutions for a coastal erosion case study. The differences of practice under last year&rsquo\;s revision of the NSW Cost Benefit Guidelines will also be raised. \; \;Finally\, the Ministerial level policy considerations in making decisions on such projects will be covered. The panel will then be open for extensive discussion of the professional issues in each field for coastal management. SPEAKERS Rob Stokes \;is the former Member for Pittwater and \;Minister for Infrastructure\, Cities\, and Active Transport in the NSW Government. Rob is currently the Chair of the Faith Housing Alliance and is an Advisory committee member for the Urban Policy Forum. Rob is an environmental lawyer and has read sustainable urban development at Oxford and completed a PhD in planning law under a Commonwealth Scholarship. \; Ed Couriel \;is a director at the Manly Hydraulics Laboratory\, which provides specialist services across a range of water\, coastal and environmental management fields. Ed&rsquo\;s background is in the environmental services industry\, and he has a strong interest in coastal engineering. He is skilled in Coastal and Water Engineering\, Modelling and Monitoring\, Coastal and Floodplain Management\, Drainage and Environmental Awareness. Dr. Shima Madani \;is an accomplished economist and General Manager at Balmoral Group Australia. \; \;She specialises in natural resource economics and mainly focuses on coastal economic research. Dr. Madani holds a Ph.D. in Natural Resource Economics\, where her dissertation focused on determining the total economic value of coral reef ecosystems in the Persian Gulf.
