DESCRIPTION:Going back to the high schools: Challenging stereotypes about economics
Economics in the UK is an elitist &ndash\; and male &ndash\; discipline\, and the problem starts in school. Sarah will talk about Discover Economics\, an initiative to create opportunities for young people (15 &ndash\; 17) to find out about economics\, with the aim of broadening the subject&rsquo\;s appeal. She will discuss the lessons from a pilot&nbsp\;national outreach program. &nbsp\;
This event is a hybrid event&nbsp\;and can be attended in-person&nbsp\;or&nbsp\;virtually.

About the Speaker
Professor Sarah Smith is Professor of Economics at the University of Bristol. She is an applied micro-economist\, currently working on issues in pro-social behaviour and diversity in economics.&nbsp\;She is co-chair of Discover Economics\, a campaign to increase diversity among economics students and was previously chair of the Royal Economic Society&rsquo\;s Women&rsquo\;s Committee. She is also Secretary of the Regional Standing Committee of the Econometric Society.
