DESCRIPTION:The Young Economists Network (YEN)&nbsp\;invite you to "Papers in the Pub" in July!
Hear about new research and share a drink with old and new friends.
For the first of our "Papers in the Pub" series\, Dominic Behrens (The CIE)\, Matthew Maltman and Theo Gibbons (e61 Institute) will present their brand-new research: What Local Land Use Reform Does\, and Doesn&rsquo\;t\, Do.
This paper examines what happens when local governments relax planning controls to allow denser housing to be built. Studying a unique natural experiment in Adelaide\, we find a large\, rapid increase in construction\, study why the reforms worked and trace their effects across the city. We find that the new homes freed up housing for younger\, poorer and renter households\, boosted business formation\, reversed local population ageing and had small or no effect on amenity for existing residents.
