Welcome to the New South Wales Branch of the Economic Society of Australia

The NSW Branch of the Economic Society of Australia was formed in 1925, making it one of the most established professional associations in Australia. The rich history of activities continues, and with a strong membership, it is the largest of the state branches in Australia. Through engaging seminars, a range of educational events and conferences, the Society aims to

• encourage informed public debate on important economic issues
• promote the teaching and study of economics and its application in Australia
• assist in the training and professional development of economists

The NSW Branch is one of seven Branches around Australia, that together make up Federated organisation. For information about our Central Council or other Branches, please visit www.esacentral.org.au

We welcome membership to our organisation, and attendance at our program of events, to anyone interested in contemporary economic issues and debate. We invite you to browse our website for more information about our events, publications and membership, and to check back regularly for information on employment opportunities in the sector, events being run by our partner organisations, as well as editorial on current issues and topics.

Objectives

The objectives of the Society in 1925 were:

• To encourage the study of economics,
• To investigate local and general economic problems,
• To prepare digests of information on current developments, and
• To publish a journal.

These objectives have remained unchanged for sixty years, and continue in similar form today.
